Meitei Leepun calls for the implementation of the NRC, removal of illegal immigrants from the ST list

Meitei Lipun calls for the implementation of the NRC and the removal of illegal immigrants from the List of Scheduled Tribes.

In a recent statement, NGO Meitei Leepun expressed support for the introduction of a National Register of Citizens (NRC), apart from deleting illegal immigrants from the list of Scheduled Tribes.

Amid growing anxiety and mistrust among the people of Manipur, Chief Minister Meitei Lipun met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, N. Biren Singh was dedicated to unity and oneness of the nation.

The organisation welcomed the government’s efforts to strengthen the borders, especially efforts to build a strong wall along the India-Myanmar border. However, he emphasised the importance of implementing the NRC while addressing the issue of illegal immigration from the Scheduled Tribes List.

According to Meitei Leepun, these measures are essential to fully realise the benefits of the government’s plans to protect the interests and welfare of the people.
