Empowering Education: Cotton University Hosts SWAYAM-NPTEL Awareness Workshop:
Cotton University, in collaboration with NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), IIT Madras, organized an insightful workshop today to raise awareness about SWAYAM-NPTEL, shedding light on various online certification courses and initiatives aimed at enhancing the employability of students.
The workshop, held on November 20, covered a range of topics, including NPTEL online certification courses, exam processes, credit transfer, Faculty Development Programme (FDP) courses, domain certificates, self-paced courses, internships, and soft skill training opportunities. The event also explored the concept of Local Chapters as a collaborative avenue with NPTEL.
The distinguished resource person for the workshop was Shib Sankar Das, Senior Manager of NPTEL office, IIT Madras, renowned for his pioneering efforts in promoting online learning in India. Das emphasized the pivotal role of NPTEL courses in bridging the gap between industry requirements and educational offerings, with a key focus on enhancing students’ employability.
“NPTEL not only caters to students and faculty members but also extends its benefits to industry professionals, with many industries utilizing these courses to train their staff,” stated Das during his engaging presentation. He encouraged faculty members to consider NPTEL online certification courses for Career Advancement Scheme (CAS)-based promotions and to explore new domains of knowledge.
Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, in his welcome address, urged faculty members to motivate their students to enroll in various online courses offered under SWAYAM for academic learning and personality development. The inaugural session also saw the presence of Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ganesh Chandra Wary and Dean of Research and Development Prof. Mahadev Patgiri.
The workshop included an interactive session, allowing participants to delve into the features of online courses, including course content, lecture duration, assignment types, grading patterns, certification exams, and fee-related norms. The event was well-attended by faculty members from Cotton University and other educational institutions, including Girijananda Chowdhury University, Dakshin Kamrup College, Saraighat College, and the National Law University and Judicial Academy.
Cotton University’s SWAYAM unit, launched in 2019, has earned accolades, including recognition as the “Best Local Chapter in Arts, Science & Commerce category” by SWAYAM-NPTEL for the July-December 2022 semester. The NPTEL initiative, supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, offers online certification courses through the SWAYAM platform, involving IITs and IISc Bangalore.
As part of an ongoing initiative, similar workshops are scheduled to be conducted in other educational institutions in the coming days, aiming to create awareness about SWAYAM-NPTEL courses and their transformative impact on education and professional development.
