Prestigious Oration delivered by Assam Surgeon on Robotics & Artificial Intelligence in Medicine at Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University

Guwahati: On Monday, the 8th of April 2024, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University proudly held the renowned Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram Oration on Robotics & Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, featuring Prof. Dr. Subhash Khanna, CMO, Swagat Superspecialty Hospital, Guwahati as the distinguished keynote speaker. The oration delved into the past, present, and future of robotic surgery, offering insights into cutting-edge medical advancements.

The event took place at the university’s Silver Jubilee Auditorium at the university at 11:00 a.m, attended by over 800 students, medical professionals, and enthusiasts witnessing this significant discourse. This transformative dialogue was sponsored by the Vinayaka Mission.

With his extensive experience and contributions to innovative surgical techniques, Prof. Khanna enlightened attendees on the evolving landscape of robotic surgery and its impact on healthcare.
The program agenda included a warm welcome by Dr. P. Arumugam, Registrar of the university, followed by a presidential address from Dr. K. Narayanasamy. Prof. Dr. Subhash Khanna’s oration marked the highlight of the event, offering invaluable insights into the intersection of medicine and technology. Dr. R. Sudha, Dean of Students, concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors. The event was attended by prominent guests such as Dr. A. Nagappan, Principal, Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Tamil Nadu, Dr. M. Lakshmimohan, Head-CIR, AV Group of Institutions, along with trustees of the Vinayaka Mission. Prof. Khanna shared the dais with Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Dean, AV Medical College & Hospital, Puducherry and the Registrar, TNMGRMU along with other dignitaries.

The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, abbreviated as TNMGRMU, stands as a beacon of excellence in medical education and research in India. Situated in the bustling neighbourhood of Guindy, Chennai, this government medical university is the second largest health sciences university in India. Named in honour of the esteemed former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.), TNMGRMU has a network encompassing 59 affiliated medical colleges.

The oration is a tribute to Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, a Philanthropist and Educationist, established the Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational & Charitable Trust in 1981, the Vinayaka Mission Super Speciality Hospital in 2004 to serve the public at an affordable cost and the founder-chairman of Vinayaka Missions deemed university. TNMGRMU has instituted a chair in the name of Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram.
