Assam CID Summons Congress Leaders for Alleged Public Property Damage During Nyay Yatra

The Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued summons to several prominent Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, in connection with alleged destruction of public property during the Nyay Yatra organized by the Assam Congress party.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, other party officials such as KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh, Bhupen Borah, Gaurav Gogoi, and Debabrata Saikia have also been summoned to appear before the CID police station in Guwahati as per the notice issued.

Additionally, individuals named Ramen Kumar Sharma and Zakir Hussain Sikdar have also received summons from the CID.

The leaders have been directed to appear before the CID on February 23. Failure to comply with the summons could lead to arrest under section 41 A (3) of CrPC.

The notice, issued by Kaikhose Simte, Inspector of Police, CID, Guwahati, cites the need to question the individuals in relation to the investigation of FIR/Case No. 55/2024 registered at Police Station Basistha. The case involves alleged offenses under various sections including 120B, 142, 147, 283, 253, 332, 333, 188, and 427 of the IPC along with the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

The Nyay Yatra, organized by the Assam Congress party, was a political procession held to address various issues pertinent to the state. However, details regarding the specific allegations of damage to public property during the procession have not been disclosed by the authorities.

The CID has emphasized the importance of cooperation from the summoned officials in the ongoing inquiry and has urged them to respond promptly to the summons.
