Digital Desk : Grandparents remain a source of support and they play an important role in instilling positive values, traditions, and time-tested cultural customs in young children. Grandparents Day is a day dedicated to the special role that grandparents play in raising grand- children and showing love and appreciation to them.
The down town School (dtS), Guwahati, celebrated Grand Parents Day by extending an invitation to all the grandparents of the students of grade jr kg to grade 2 studying in the school. In their effort at promoting familial ties and instilling family values in young children, a fun-filled programme was organized by the school for the grandparents.
At the start of the programme, the guests were welcomed with a Group Welcome Song that was sung by a group of students belonging to Grade Jr KG to Grade 5. Many other group songs and dances were presented by the students of various grades and were interspersed with heart-touching speeches and poems by a selection of students in appreciation of their grandparents. The senior citizens eagerly participated in some games organized for them, and the winners were awarded prizes.
Some of the grandparents also came forward to speak on the occasion. They shared their feelings and sentiments about their role in their family, their relationship with their grandchildren, and some heart-warming incidents between them and their grandchild. They were very appreciative of the school’s initiative in organizing this special day for them, and almost all of them mentioned that they had never had the opportunity to attend a Grand Parents Day in the past and that this was their first time. The special programme organised by the down town School in honour of grandparents was highly appreciated by all the attendees.
