Earthquake with magnitude 5.1 hits Assam

Sonitpur: A magnitude of 5.1 earthquake struck Sonitpur district of Assam late night at 12:02 a.m. on 27th March, 2021.
The quake hit 109 km north of the town of Tezpur at a depth of 27 km.


It occurred under the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountain Range. The quake was felt at up to 250 km radius from the epicenter. No immediate damage has been reported.


Assam has been struck by multiple earthquakes already this year alone. It is due to to its location near the collision zone between the Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates.
