India reports highest single-day spike with over 40,953 cases

New Delhi: India reported over 40,000 coronavirus cases in a single day today, the biggest single-day spike in 2021. The Centre has asked the states and Union Territories to ensure that people follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour like wearing of face masks, maintain hand hygiene and social distancing in view of a sudden spike in the number of coronavirus cases in parts of the country.


Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, CMs of several states has taken preventive measures to ensure the virus is kept at bay. Punjab CM Cap.t Amarinder Singh announced on Thursday that night curfew will begin at 9 pm instead of 11 pm in the eight districts where it has been imposed.


On the other hand, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that the number of COVID-19 cases had increased since September. Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat has said that he has ordered free vaccination for journalists in the state.
Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced one-day lockdown in Jabalpur, Indore and Bhopal from Sunday to Monday 6 a.m.
